Christmas `Welcome Ring` Wreath Making/Centre Piece Workshop - 24th Nov, 6th Dec & 8th Dec

What better way to welcome in the spirit of Christmas than with a beautiful handmade Christmas Wreath. Come and learn a skill which will stay with you for each and every Christmas going forward. 

Today we live in a throwaway culture, if we look back in time we will find that the wreath was born from a time when nothing was thrown away, it had a very humble beginning. when a tree was trimmed and its branches were left over, instead of discarding them they were kept and woven into a circle representing eternal life.

The advent wreath is believed to have originated in the 16th Century when it was first used by Lutherans in Germany. Whilst telling the nativity story a Lutheran clergyman in 1833 lit candles of different sizes and colours and placed them in a wreath every Sunday as Christmas approached. It didn`t take long before this custom spread to homes and churches and continues today.

It wasn`t until the 19th Century that `welcome rings` usually consisting of holly, ivy, pine cones, ribbons and foliage were hung on doors. Hence the Christmas door wreath was born.

You will have fun creating a wreath which can also be used as a table centre piece. We will be using a mixture of fresh, dried foliage and fruits, plus winter berries and of course holly and anything which you would like to bring to add to your creation. If you would like your wreath to double up as a table centre piece candles can be added at an additional charge.
